Board Meeting held to review rural infrastructure development projects

A Board Meeting was held to review the progress of the “Sustainable Rural Development” and “Integrated Rural Development” (Phase 2) projects, which are being implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The meeting was organized by the United Nations Development Programme Country Office in Uzbekistan, which serves as a partner in implementing these initiatives. Representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, local hokimiyats, and specialists from the project implementation unit participated in the meeting.

In accordance with Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PR-5246 dated 18 September 2021, the “Sustainable Rural Development” project, implemented with the financial support of the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development, covers 20 districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as the Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions.
A total of 912 facilities have been selected under the project. Construction works on 111 new facilities are nearing completion, and State Acceptance Committee acts are being formalized. Reconstruction and major repair works continue on the remaining 801 facilities.

The “Integrated Rural Development” (Phase 2) project is being implemented in 21 remote districts of the Samarkand, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions. Project design documentation has been completed and expert reviews obtained for 741 facilities.

During the Board Meeting, participants reviewed the results achieved this year in construction, design, and reconstruction activities; examined key performance indicators; identified shortcomings; and discussed lessons learned. They also considered the main objectives and plans for 2026.

In addition, participants discussed opportunities to expand cooperation with international and donor organizations, reviewed their experience in developing infrastructure and social services in remote areas, and examined prospects for further advancement of the projects in this direction.
